“Military Weekend Warrior Project” Partnership Announced by E.C. Barton & Company
E.C. Barton & Company, parent organization to Barton's Lumber, are proud supporters of the United States Military. These veterans sacrifice their safety, family time, and often home stability to provide the American people with their endowed freedoms. The entire company supports the military through numerous causes, discounts, as well as hiring veterans, retirees, and spouses within the company. Today, we take the cause one step further.
E.C. Barton & Company will be collaborating with a military family as they start their journey from the “white walls” of military housing, toward creating their ideal home at their next duty station. We will be following this great couple through all their upcoming DIY projects in their home, while showing viewers how to tackle projects that they may have considered, but never executed. Each video will highlight an update to the home while offering viewers a chance to get to know this dedicated family.
Ryan & Lynn Black: Military Family, Semi-Pro DIYers
Ryan and Lynn Black met in 2012 in a “pizza tavern” while Ryan was in town for training. After a few slices of “pizza” and a great conversation about the dairy farms they both grew up on, the rest was history. The couple was married in 2014 and are arriving at their 4rd duty station as a couple to begin their DIY adventure.
Ryan is a Damage Controlman 1st Class Select in the United States Coast Guard. He has been an active duty member for 7 years and plans to spend his career as a "Coastie". He has been blessed to travel across the country and to many foreign ports during his time in the Coast Guard. As a DC1 in the Coast Guard, being handy is an absolute must. His military experience combined with a wealth of knowledge about DIY attained while growing up, makes projects a fun and natural task.
Lynn runs a marketing consulting business from her home and employs many military spouses within her community. She has spent years within the industry, expanding her knowledge and helping small businesses grow. Lynn has knowledge of DIY projects from years spent helping her father with his HVAC company.
Ryan and Lynn will be moving from the Home of the Conch Republic, Key West, FL, to Suffolk, VA. This is near Lynn’s family and friends who will also be making guest appearances during the projects. During the course of the project there will be times that Lynn’s husband is away. This is a reality that military spouses face so Lynn will recruit her support system as guest stars on more difficult tasks and contractors on larger scale projects. Besides, no weekend warrior project is ever complete without some buddies!
The home is a 3BR, 2.5 Bath with an additional FROG space (Finished Room Over Garage). Built in 1987, this home exudes Americana and that "Hometown Feel". Although some items have been updated in the home, pictures can be deceiving and there are many projects that the couple will be taking on to improve their home. Their plan is to take the layout from 1980's big hair and hair metal to country-modern to reflect their tastes.
